His Dad Built an Epic Homemade Telescope. What It Captured Will Blow Your Astronomical Mind.

This guy’s dad has an obsession that will leave your jaw on the floor. The hobby itself isn’t insane, but what he did with it is. Just for fun, he built a large and powerful telescope that could see into the depths of space. Some of the images that he was able to capture, just from his backyard, will blow your mind and remind you of just how small planet Earth really is.

It all started with a penchant for star gazing.

With some ingenuity…

(And a little bit of obsession…)

That hobby turned into something incredible.

The amateur astronomer can see into the depths of space. (This is “The Swan.”)

Galaxy NGC 2403

These images he captured can’t be seen by any normal telescope. (The Pleiades cluster in Taurus.)

Great Nebula in Orion.

Galaxy M-81 and M-82 in Ursa Major.

Great globular cluster in Hercules.

Globular cluster M-3 in Canes Venatici.

Dumbbell nebula in Vulpecula.

Cone nebula in Monoceros.

The Horse head nebula in Orion.

It’s hard to imagine any of this actually exists. All of the time. All around us.
