Vulcan Point is an island in a lake on an island in a lake on an island.

The tiny little island of Vulcan Point in the Philippines is the world’s largest island within a lake (Crater Lake) that is situated on an island (Volcano Island, or Taal Island) located in a lake (Lake Taal) within an island (Luzon). It also happens to be one of the cones of the active Taal Volcano, so Vulcan Point is also the world’s largest volcano in a lake (Main Crater Lake) on a volcano (Taal Volcano). Crater Lake also happens to be the largest lake on an island (Volcano Island) in a lake (Lake Taal) on an island (Luzon). Got that?

No? Yeah I was confused too… Hopefully these pictures will illustrate this amazing little island better:
Lets zoom out a bit… Here’s The Philippines.
This is the northernmost island, or Luzon Island.
This is the southern end of Luzon Island.
That large lake there is known as Taal Lake.
Out of it pops the peak of Taal Volcano, forming an island in the lake.
Zoom in more and we start seeing a lake in the crater of the volcano (simply known as Crater Lake), and a tiny little island within that lake.
That tiny little island is Vulcan Point.
Vulcan Point within the crater lake of Taal Volcano.

Amazing! This is like the ‘Inception’ of geography. Share it with others.
