Warning Signs of Gluten Intolerance

Gluten has been the buzz word as of late and gluten intolerance has been the condition many have been claiming.

Gluten intolerance is actually a condition in your gut which can indeed have a negative impact on health and well-being. It’s not a food allergy nor a sign of celiac disease. It’s basically undigested gluten proteins in your intestines which end up irritating your gut.

So what are the signs of gluten intolerance? This is important to identify as many will end up continuing to eat gluten without knowing that it is harming them, and they could very well end up suffering from diseases because of it.

Here’s the eight common signs of gluten intolerance:

1. Stomach Pain

If you are having digestive issues then this can be a sign of gluten intolerance. If gas, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation occur after eating certain foods, it could be gluten related and they may damage the lining of the small intestine which leads to poor absorption of the food you eat, as well as mineral and vitamin absorption.



2. Dizziness

Disorientation and “brain fog” are also symptoms. You may also feel off-balance. Cutting out gluten has had many experience a decrease in vertigo attacks as well as feeling relief from that feeling of “cloudiness.”



3. Mood Swings

There’s a link between your gut and your brain. If your gut is unsettled, obviously your brain is going to be unsettled and anxious. Depression and anxiety are also included with gluten consumption conditions.



4. Chronic Migraine

Migraines and headaches are gluten intolerance symptoms. Usually 30 to 60 minutes after consumption, the headaches will kick in. Blurry vision and eye socket pain can also be a result.



5. Itchy Skin

Gluten sensitivity can lead to skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Difficulty with gluten processing in the intestines leads to conditions in the outer skin like itching, due to the immune system responding with antibodies. These case dryness and itchiness.



6. Fibromyalgia

This is a horrible chronic condition where pain occurs in muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Mostly women are affected and 4 percent overall in the U.S. suffer from it.

Turns out many health professionals are declaring that gluten avoidance can actually alleviate fibromyalgia. It can also help treat secondary, undiagnosed illnesses. Rheumatology expert Alex Shikhman, M.D. says “When patients are helped by a specific dietary measure, it is often because of the presence of a secondary condition that does have a recognized response to diet. And when you take care of that, you do get some relief from all the symptoms. You feel better overall.”



7. Chronic Fatigue

Naturally if you body is screwed up, then your mind is going to be reeling as well, leading to a feeling of exhaustion. This despite 8-9 hours of sleep. You can still feel drained and tired.

Your body can exhaust itself when trying to deal with all the gluten issues, leading to the feeling of tiredness as your energy gets sucked up.



8. Lactose Intolerance

These two, gluten and lactose, can go hand in hand when it comes to symptoms. So if lactose is an issue with you, then it is likely that gluten will be to. A sugar is found in milk and dairy products which triggers digestive issues to occur, making glucose intolerance issues even worse. Acid reflux is also a result of dairy food and linked to gluten intolerance also.
